How do I make a change to my estate documents (will or estate summary)?

Life happens. What was once current can quickly become out-of-date. Traditionally, updates and changes to plans surrounding estate assets were cumbersome and expensive. No longer! With Covet, changes are easy and they don't cost anything extra.

If you have an existing Covet account and have previously printed and signed, witnessed, and notarized your estate plan documents, updating after making changes to any one or more of your assets, beneficiaries, allocations, executor(s), guardian(s), disinheritance or your personal information can be done in a few easy steps.

First it should be noted that changes to asset values do not require updating estate plan documents. For example: if the balance of your connected bank account went up or down, it does not require an update to your documents. However, if you opened a new account that has not been previously connected to Covet, updating your estate plan documents is recommended (assuming you want that new account included in your plan documents).

  1. Login your to account and make your desired change(s) in one or more of the following areas with Covet: Personal Information, Assets (any asset), Beneficiaries, Allocations, or any of the input fields in your will.
  2. Once you have saved your changes Covet automatically updates your estate planning documents. But you'll need to do two more steps...
  3. View and Print your new estate planning documents following the instructions in "How do I view and print my documents?" After printing the updated documents, sign them with witnesses, have the witnesses sign following the instructions in the article "How do sign my will?" and have them notarized (optional but recommended).
  4. Destroy old hard copies that you have previously printed and signed and keep the new ones in a safe place and let your executor(s) know where to find them.
